In line with a large-scale device refresh and a strategic shift to Microsoft Surface notebooks, Oldham Council sought a reliable mobile docking solution to support its 'work anywhere' approach across departments.
The Council required 3,000 docking stations to be deployed between 2024 and 2025. During testing, alternative branded products presented performance issues that hindered rollout and risked delaying the wider hybrid working strategy.
Targus, through our channel partner Insight, was invited to participate in the competitive evaluation process. Following testing of two Targus models - both of which met Oldham’s specifications - the Council selected the DOCK423 for its reliability, portability, and broad device compatibility.
To date, nearly 1,000 DOCK423 units have been delivered and successfully deployed. An additional 2,000 units are scheduled for delivery in 2025, ensuring consistent connectivity and a streamlined user experience for council employees across a range of working environments.
Staffordshire County Council sought to modernise its workplace practices to support smarter, more flexible working. With a commitment to greater collaboration, mobility, and productivity, the council aimed to equip staff with the tools needed to work effectively from any location.
An internal survey revealed that many employees were unable to access the right technology to support flexible working. Staff were restricted by traditional desk setups, limiting their ability to work remotely or move freely between office spaces.
Targus worked with the council to deliver an agile working solution, enabling staff to connect seamlessly at any workstation. Using a combination of universal docking stations and ergonomic accessories, employees could plug into any 'enabled' desk and instantly access monitors, peripherals, and network connectivity. The solution mirrored a traditional desk environment while allowing for mobility and hotdesking.
This rollout has enabled a smarter, more agile workplace culture. Council employees are no longer confined to static workstations - they can now work productively at home, in the office, or on the move. The longevity of the deployment, first introduced in 2017, highlights the durability and reliability of the Targus solution. With infrastructure still in use, the Council is now exploring replacement and upgrade opportunities.

Following the Ministry of Justice's rollout of Microsoft Surface devices, users encountered limitations with connectivity - particularly around Ethernet, HDMI, and traditional USB-A ports. This created challenges as the department shifted back towards more office and site-based working.
Targus worked closely with the MoJ's technical architects to identify and validate a stable docking solution, overcoming previous compatibility issues and enabling a seamless, secure user experience. The collaboration involved rigorous testing and vendor engagement to ensure full device compatibility.
With the solution now deployed, Targus is supporting the MoJ in exploring a broader range of workspace peripherals, including privacy screens and input devices, to enhance productivity across the department's user base.
